Unless you’ve had your head under a rock over the last 24 hours, you will know that the Brit Awards winners were announced last night. The show saw a good mix of female performers, and women announcing the awards, but we saw just two female winners (just 22% of the winning acts).
UK artist Dua Lipa won two awards and Lorde, originally from New Zealand, took away International Female Solo Artist.
Dua Lipa’s two accolades were British Breakthrough and British Female Solo Artist. In her acceptance speech she gave a shout out to other female artists and said she is looking forward to seeing more female winners in the future.
‘I want to thank every single female that has been on this stage before me and has given girls like me a place to be inspired by and [someone to] look up to and allow us to dream. Here’s to more women on these stages, winning these awards and taking over the world.’
Next up, we’ll be reporting on the Music Producers Guild Awards announced on 1st March.
