Thursday 21 June sees Isle of Wight Festival return for its 50th anniversary. Their website describes the festival as ‘Europe’s equivalent of Woodstock.’ In 1970, the festival featured established musicians such as Joni Mitchell and Joan Baez.
The Isle of Wight Festival began in 1968 and held a series of festivals up to and during 1970. They took a break for over three decades (due to an act of parliament that banned gatherings of more than 5000 people together on one night) returning in 2002.
This year’s lineup features artists from music veterans Soul II Soul to Kara Marni who’s new to the UK music scene.
Anusha selected ten female artists from this year’s line up.
